Three harnesses, three different jobs. Decide what the harness is for first, then worry about color and fit.

Which harness for which job

  • Full-grain leather agitation harness: heavy-duty training. Use it on a back-tie or long line when the helper agitates and you want the dog loading into the line with its chest, not its neck.
  • Tactical nylon harness, padded, with control handle: for handlers who need to grab and hold the dog close, in a crowd, in a vehicle or on a deployment.
  • Premium nylon harness: for working and active dogs in daily training, walks and fitness work.

A harness does not replace the collar in protection training. Many handlers run both: a harness for drive building on the line and a flat or fur-saver collar for obedience and control. See our working dog collars if you are setting up both.

For fit, measure the girth just behind the front legs with the dog standing, then check the sizing on the product page. A harness that sits too far back can rub under the legs when the dog drives hard into the line. One that rides up can press on the throat, which defeats the reason you chose a harness.

Pair the leather agitation harness with a strong line from our working dog leashes. If you work a dog in public or around other dogs, a working dog muzzle is worth adding to the kit.
