The Garmin PRO 550 with Tri-Tronics is a remote dog training system: a handheld remote and a receiver the dog wears. How well any remote collar works in the field depends a lot on the strap. The receiver has to sit snug with the contact points on the skin, and it has to stay there through running, swimming and bite work.
Choosing a strap for your receiver
- Quick-Release E-Collar Strap, PowerFlex. The plain version, with a quick-release so the collar comes off fast.
- PowerFlex with Bungee. Adds a bungee section so the strap can give a little as the neck moves.
- PowerFlex, Built-In Bungee Loop. The bungee is built into a loop on the strap.
Before real work, condition the dog to the collar. Fit it, let the dog wear it for a few days, then teach the stimulation at low levels in a place the dog already knows. Check the fit again after hard sessions, since straps can shift. For other remote systems, compare Educator e-collars, Dogtra e-collars and the full range of remote dog training collars.
