The Canaan Dog is Israel's national breed, an ancient desert dog that is alert, agile and naturally watchful. Most adults weigh 35–55 lb, with a neck size of about 14–20 inches. It's a hardy, independent breed that does best with durable, lightweight gear.

What Matters for This Breed
The Canaan Dog is highly intelligent but independent, and wary of strangers. Calm, consistent handling and reward-based training work best. Its double coat protects it from heat and cold, but it also hides the true neck size, so measure against the skin. The breed is known for its speed, so a snug, secure collar is essential.
